Australians Become Infatuated

appeal of the sailor's uniform is extraordinarily manifest in Australia at the present time, and many parents are worried over the result of the visit to Australia of th United States cruiser Louisville, which was intimately concerned in the drowning disaster in the Sydney harbour recently. Intent on following Louisville sailors, whom they had met, several Sydney girls ran away from home and some are still missing. Distracted mothers reported their fears and Sergeant Lillian Armfield and her staff of women p ‘lice found most of the girls. Two were traced after their photographs had appeared in the newspapers with American sailors. The girls had meant no harm, said a police officer. They merely wished to be near their sailor sweethearts and

1 meet them whenever they were granted leave. There was a good chance, said an ; officer, that some of the dozen girls • now being sought by the police, had gone to the other States, following the i Louisville.
