MUTUAL CONGRATULATIONS Received Monday, 7.5 p.m. LONDON, March 13. The Daily Telegraph’s Berlin correspondent discloses that Herr Hitler’s thanks to Signor Mussolini -were in reply to a telegram from Signor Mussolini: “I congratulate you on the way you solved the Austrian problem. I had already warned Dr. Schuchnigg. ” It is understood authoritatively that the German troops at present in Austria will not be withdrawn pending the plebiscite, but Austrian troops are to be sent to Germany to relieve the congestion in the barracks in Austria. Although it is stated that the troops are being exchanged in a demonstration of unity, says the Daily Telegraph’s Munich correspondent, the first detachment of Austrians has already reached Lindau. Others are arriving tomorrow, when the roads will be clear of Germans going to Austria. AUSTRIAN PRESIDENT RESIGNS CHANCELLOR CONFINED IN PALACE Received Monday, 7.5 p.m. VIENNA, March 13. It is officially stated that Herr Miklas resigned at the request of Dr. Inquart. His resignation was almost a foregone conclusion owing to his support of Dr. Schuschnigg It is stated that Herr Hitler delayed his entry into Vienna owing to Herr Miklas refusing to meet him. The Daily Telegraph’s Vienna correspondent says Dr. Schuschnigg is guarded by 100 of Dr. Inquart’s new corps of Storm Troops, who, led by Dr. Inquart, escorted him to Belvedere Castle, formerly the Royal Palace, his official residence as Chancellor on March 11 when after his broadcast he refused all suggestions that he should flee the country.
