1938 Rugby Season

UNITED CLUB ELECTS OFFICERS Tho United Football Club’s annual meeting was held last evening, the chairman of committees, Mr. \V. Carruthers, presiding until the new president, Mr. G. Love, was elected. There was a very satisfactory attendance of members. Report and Balance-sheet. The report (already published) and balance-sheet were read and adopted on the motion of Air. Carruthers, who said that the 1937 season had been a very good one from a club viewpoint and in every other way. He expressed the hope that during the coming season the club would be able to field a senior team. D. N. Davis Shield. With the report and balance-sheet adopted, the chairman presented the D« N. Davis Shield, which goes to tho champion athlete in the club, the winner for the 1937 season being H. (Tim) Temperton. The next business was the election of 19 new members. Election of Officers. Temperton and A. de Cleene; secretary, Mr. G. Edmunds; treasurer, Air. N. Sinclair; auditor, Air. F. C. Campbell; club captain. Mr. C. Podjursky; management committee, Alessrs E. Alabev, W. Turner, W. Carrutliers, J. Robb, G. Peters, E. Findlay, C. Francis, J. Barker, G. Kerr and N. Mabey; dele* gates to Alanawatu Rugby Union, Alessrs G. Peters, W. Carruthers and J. Robb. Subscriptions for the coming season were fixed at a figure 2s 6d above that for last year, except for the fourth, grade, which was unaltered. It was decided that the first practice be on Saturday, April c. The appointment of coaches was left to the management committee. The club picnic was fixed for March, 27, at the Ashhurst racecourse, if available, or at Foxton beach. A vote of thanks was accorded Alessrs G. Peters and W. Carruthers for their services as delegates last year, this being carried by acclamation. The committee was asked to make the effort to arrange the match writh Johnson ville, at Johnsonville, for the weekend following Easter, also to arrange for practice games for all teams with Old Boys.
