Saturday’s Competition Games TU Manawatu Cricket Competition games were resumed on Saturday on hard pitches. City ▼. Palmerston City collapsed in their first innings mainly as the result of the bowling of Pritchard who secured the fine average of 6 wickets for 24 runs. Palmerston are set for a win, having 183 on the board at stumps for the loss of 4 wickets. Pritchard contributed 75 including three 6’s off C. McVicar and another three off Hardie. LEAD HIGH SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP OF 203 A first wicket partnership of 203 by Y.M.CA. was the feature of the senior match between High School and Y.M.C.A. commenced at the High School ground on Saturday afternoon. Batting first High School compiled 124, the top scorer being Baigent who reached 30 before he was bowled by Murchison. Only three of the other batsmen reached double figures, Davies 22, Cameron 17 and Downes 13. The most successful Y.M.C.A. bowler was Spelman, who dismissed four of the school side for 30 runs, while Murchison was instrumental in returning three school bats to the pavilion at the expense of 44 runs. After one of Y.M.C.A. ’s opening pair, Edlin, had been dismissed without scoring, G. Cameron and Murchison were associated in a very useful partnership, which carried the score to 203 before it was severed, the latter passing the century by 28 runs and Cameron adding 75. Y.M.C.A. at that stage ap peared to be in an excellent position to run up a really first-class total, but as it turned out “extras” was the only one to make a satisfactory quota with 40, although Hatch stayed long enough to get 17 and Allan carried his bat for 13. United made 135 (McGregor 20, Gibson 19 not out) to which City replied with 23 (Dilks 18). Second strike City made 90 (Lang 30, Osborne 20). Bowling for City Lang took 3 wickets for 15 runs and Hearsey 2 for 20. Bowling for United McGregor took 4 wickets for 5 runs and 4 for 10, Duffield 1 for none and Fitzherbert 3for 16. JUNIOR A. Massey College beat H. L. Youngs by an innings and 66 runs. Coliege made 217 (Campbell 101 retired, Zinzan 41, Kelly 29) and Youngs 99 (Houghton 42) first innings and 54 second innings. Bowling for Youngs Houghton took 5 for 58. Bowling for College Zinzan took 5 for 29, Kelly 4 for 35, Elley 2 for 24 and 6 for 12. United made 123 (Wright 43, Blenhinsop 30, A. Raisin 28) and Kia Toa replied with 126 (Fletcher 64, Pearson 19). At stumps Uniter had 56 on the board, second strike, for the loss of 3 wickets. Bowling for Kia Toa Rush took 2 for 25, FTetcher 2 for- 22 and Seivert 2 for 23. Bowling for United McSweeney took 4 for 12 and W. Francis .2 for 29. Meeting Combined Services in the junior A competition, Old Boys compiled 62 (Winter 19). Among the bowlers Morgan took seven for 15. With 129 High School appeared to be in a handy position against Optimists, but the latter staged a good last-wicket stand of 48 to bring their total to no. For High School Fletcher batted well for 51, Murray made 36 and Adcock 13 against the bowling of L. Zaloum, who took five for 35 and Rice three for 13. Contributors to Optimists ’ tally were Wysoeki 37, O’Connell 24 and MeNabb 15 not out. Anderson was the best High School trundler with seven for 37.
