NEW RADIO STATION
Tender of Napier Company BUILDING AT OPAPA
From Our Own CorrespondentNAPIER, Feb. 25The tender of a Napier pany, at a price, it is understood of more than £6OOO, was accepted yesterday for the construction of the new radio transmitting station for the National Broadcasting Service, which is to be built at Opapa. The name of the successful tenderer will not be made available until the contract is signed. The Johnson Building Company, of Napier, which was the successful tenderer for the erection of the manager’s residence at the same site, has half completed the work, despite several hold-ups through wet weather. Almost a fortnight has been lost through wet weather, but the roof was completed today, and interior work will be completed shortly. The majority of the electrical equipment for the new station will be handled by the Post and Telegraph Department. When the building work is completed, the Public Works Department, which has handled the tenders for the building, will hand them over to the Post and Telegraph Department for the completion of their portion of the job. A separate contract is let for the installation of the actual radio equipment.
