EXECUTIVE HOLDS MEETING
An executive meeting of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. and Miss Jamieson, Albert street. There were present Mesdames J. Scott, J. PefLketh, E. A. Collins, Carter, Stuart, Holland, T. Beggs, Misses Thompson, M. Sutherland and J. Hughson, the last-named being a visitor from the Karori Union. An apology for absence was received from Mrs. T. R. Hodder. The first question discussed was whether or not the 1939 Dominion Convention should lbe held in Palmerston North. It was decided that it be a recommendation that an invitation be extended for the Dominion Convention to be held in this town next year. Mrs. Carter, literature superintendent, agreed to interview the ministers of the town about the posters at the churches, and it was decided to pay the rental of £1 a year required for space at the railway station. Mrs. Stuart, cradle-roll superintendent, gave a brief report of her department. It was agreed that as the May meeting would be “Peace” Day, the Rev. J. Hubbard, president of the local branch of the League ef Nations Union be asked to speak. It was decided that the usual “white ribbon” day be observed at the June meeting. It was agreed to hold a jumble siale on May 20 in cooperation with the local branch of the New Zealand A lliance. Various remits to be brought up at the Convention in Napier next month were discussed. •The delegate, Miss Sutherland, is to be allowed to vote as she thinks best. The president said that she was pleased to have the members of the executive at her home on that occasion as the treasurer, Mrs. J. Scott, was soon going to Australia, where she would remain for a year, and it was a fitting opportunity to thank her for her efficient work and wish her a happy time and express the hope that she would return full of enthusiasm for her job. Miss Thompson, who had graciously consented to act as treasurer in Mrs. Scott’s absence, was warmly welcomed. Mrs. Holland expressed thanks to Mrs. and Miss Jamieson for so kindly having the meeting at their home.
