NEW ZEALAND’S WONDER GIRL AT MAYFAIR SATURDAY June Barson, of Auckland, winner of tlie New Zealand Deanna Durbin contest out of 1000 competitors, is coming to Palmerstou North to-day and on Saturday w'ill make her first professional bow to a New Zealand audience at tlie Mayfair Theatre. The city is proud of having this honour conferred upon it because June Barson is destined for greater heights. When she sang over the radio in Australia she thrilled thousands and was acclaimed as a wonderful discovery. She also captured the imagination of the gramophone record manufacturers who seized the opportunity to re cord quite a number of her songs. Now she is back in New Zealand to win fresh laurels and sufficent money to complete her education. Universal Pictures Prpty. Ltd. havo her under their wing and they are giving Palmerston North picture fans an additional thrill by having the first Australasian showing hero of a picture all have been Availing to see, “Y r ou’re A Sweetheart’’ starring Alice Faye. It is a lavish musical comedy and it is the first picture in which Alice Faye dances, her partner being George Murphy. Ti e supporting programme is to include “Romantic Samoa,” a Government publicity film considered one of their best both from the photographic and interest points of view*. On Saturday morning June Barson will bo escorted to the Mayfair Theatre by the First Battation, Auckland Regimental Band which is in Palmerston North for the Band Contest. June is to make to appearances daily till Tuesday next. Universal Pictures Propriety Ltd. announce that at Easter time Palmerston North audiences will see Deanna Durbin’s latest picture “Mad About Music.” Herbert Marshall appears in the film with her.
