Swimming Carnival
WEST END SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIPS The swimming championships for the West End School for 1937 were decided in the school baths yesterday afternoon. A committee comprising the school staff are to be credited for the earryiDg out of a programme of many events in an efficient manner. Representing the school committee, Mr. E. C. McLean expressed appreciation for the Gilbert Lyno Memorial Shield presented by Mrs. Lyne, who ha J always taken a great interest in the school and its sport. The Waller Cup, for the most improved swimmer, was presented to Billy Toon, who had learnt to swim this season. He gave a fine exhibition by swimming a length in champion style. The boys' championship cup was presented to Ron Kelly with 14 points. K. Wynks was runner-up with 9 points, and N. Child third with 5 points. The girls' championship cup went to Lorraine Chamberlain (12 points). Joyce Lochead was runner-up with 6 points, and Rona Collins third with 7 points. The house relay race for the Lyne Shield was won by Buchler house with Thompson house second. On the aggregate points Thompson house (204pts.) was placed first and Buckley (163pts.) second.
