Technique of Fire Fighting
EFFICIENCY GREATLY INCREASED Per Press Association NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night. The standard of fire-fighting efficiency has increased greatly in recent years, commented Superintendent W. L. Wilson, Auckland, at the opening of the annual meeting of the New Zealand Fire Brigades Officers' and Members' Institute. Mr. R. Girling-Butcher, Inspector of Fire Brigades, said he considered the institute the most important single activity of the United Fire Brigades Association. Papers read at the conference were typical of the standard now reached by the service. The technique of fire fighting had been developed to a stage where only one or two leads were used except for exceptional fires. Officers were elected as follows: President, Superintendent W. L. Wilson (Auckland); vice-presidents, Superintendent A. Morrison, R. M. Price, A. Craig, H. E. Follas, A. J. Bennett and Superintendent C. A. Woolley; executive councils, Superintendents T. Anderson, P. Deare, A. Craig, J. W. Kane, C. W. Tyler and H. J. Price; treasurersecretary, Superintendent C. A. Osborne; secretary-captain, Superintendent T. J. Watts; scientific and research committee, Superintendents W. L. Wilson, C. A. Woolley, A. Morrison, A. Craig and H. E. Follas.
