Anglers Disappointed
From Our Own Correspondent. • HASTINGS, Last Night. Due to the abnormal conditions, fishing in the Hawke’s Bay district this season has been very disappointing to the angler. The river, being lull of well-con: ditioned fish, prospects were very bright when the season opened, but due to there being too much natural food* In our local rivers, good ‘‘bags” were scarce. The late floods have made the sport impossible, and great numbers of fish have been washed up on the banks to die. It is found that some o? the lightest showers have had a loosening effects on rifts, caused through the 1931 earthquake, thus keeping the rivers muddy when they would otherwise have been clear. The Ngaruroro and the Tukituki rivers are specially affected in this w»y. Despite all these setbacks, however, the fisherman should still be optimistic. With no more heavy rains, in two or three weeks the rivers will clear again, and some good “bags” should be registered. Reports coming from the Waipawa and Otane districts state that the rivers are clearing rapidly, and that night fishing has been rewarded with excellent catches.
