PHENOMENAL SALE OF STORE CATTLE
Keen Demand and Record Prices STORTFORD LODGE SEES SENSATIONAL BIDDING From Our Own Correspondent. HASTINGS, Last Night. Sensational bidding took place foi store cattle at Stortford Lodge to-day, when record prices were made. A particularly keen demand was shown, with the result that the market greatly exceeded expectations. Young bullocks in good order realised £ll 8/-, and similar aged, smallergrown lots made £lO 8/-. The out standing sale was that for well-bred 30-months dehorned Hereford steers, which made the remarkable value o 1 £lO 1/-. Small grown 18-months steeri made £7 2/-. Cows with calves at fefii made even better selling to realise £9 8/-. Empty cows in good store condition brought £7 3/-. Bnyers admitted that values were excessive, but they had no alternative, as they are faced with an exceptional growth of feed. The market was regarded as phenomenal. Realisations were as under:—Down from Otomauri, 33 Hereford and Hereford cross empty cows, the best being in forward order, sold well at £7 3/-. On account of Whetakura Station 22 well-bred dehorned Hereford steers, da scribed as being a line of genuine two-year-old steers, realised the splendid value of £lO 1/-. These well-grown steers were in splendid condition and showed quality. An offering of 27 Aberdeen Angual cows, with an equal number of well-, grown clean-bred calves at foot, made the big figure of £9 8/-. 4 On account of the East Coast Commissioner and off Pohaturoa Station, 75 well-grown Shorthorn and Aberdeen Angus cross bullocks, in very forward condition, sold at £ll 8/-. A line of 19 Aberdeen Angus cows, described as being empty and in forward order, brought £7 4/-. On account of the T. Nestor Estate, 20 18-months Aberdeen Angus steers, small grown but showing breeding, brought £8 2/-. On account of Mrs. C. M. Tait, Maraekakaho, 14 clean-bred young Aberdeen Angus bullocks, well framed, in good condition, sold at £ll 8/-. •On account of the same vendor, 10 smaller-grown, similar-bred young bullocks, in good order, made £lO 8/-: On account of the Estate of T. Nes-4 tor, an entry of small-grown 30-j months Aberdeen Angus steers, brought £B, and another entry, in better order, sold at £8 10/-. *
