Obituary

MR. A. R. BOWDEN In the passing of Mr. Arthur Reginald Bowden, of 27 Cuba street, on February 16, there was removed one who was well-known and universally liked by motorists and all connected with the motor trade ir. the city and the surrounding district. Always obliging and with a likeable disposition, Mr. Bowden held a particular place in the estimation of many. Kelvin Grove was Mr. Bowden's birthplace, his parents being the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bowden, who carried on farming there and later removed to Longburn, where Mr. Bowden, junr., attended school. He remained there until he was about 23 years of age, and on hi,3 father's retirement and the family moving to Palmerston North he entered the motor trade, being interested in tho mechanical section. In Fitzherbert avenue he was in partnership with Mr. C. Eberhard, but that business suffered severely through a fire and had to be relinquished. There followed an association with Mr. C. Bowden, a brother, in Rangitikei street and following that the late Mr. Bowden was in the err ploy of first the Madge Motor Company and later the then Ford Motors firm. ]ETor the last five years he was engaged in business on his own account, first in George street and later in Cuba street. • Seventeen years ago Mr. Bowden married Miss Dorothy Clapham, also of Palmerston Ncrth, and there are two sons (Arthur and Harold) and two daughters (Lorraine and Mary) of tho marriage. Messrs - Wilfred Bowden (Pahiatua) an I Charles Bowden (Palmerston North) are brothers, and Mesdames E. Stace and S. Stannard (both of Palmerston North) are sisters. At the time of his passing Mr. Bowden was a member of the Druids' Lodge and the Free Ambulance, while he was also a former president of the Kia Toa Football Club. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. J. Holland, of All Saints', while lodge honours were also accorded the late gentleman.
