Directoire Modes. Directoire modes have been revived, especially where the head and feet are concerned. Hairdressers introduce a style of the period with groups of curls, some flat to the head and others rolled on little sticks so that they make small sausage curls. New shoes for wear with evening frocks are golden sandals, laced high on the ankle in the directoire fashion. Trailing Scarfs.

Scarf-trains are yet another modernised directoire mode. Some of our leading designers are adding them to sheathlike evening gowns. They trail at the back when you warn to be dignified as you make your entrance, but at moments when trains are distinctly in the way, they can be worn over the shoulders, or round the arm.

Double Tables. Two tables that double their size r.nd can be united to form a single long table six feet long are an asset to a family dwelling in a small flat or house. So often a larger table is required when visitors come, when a small one is all that the family needs when on its own. Each table has its comers enlarged with four triangular flaps, so that from a table surface of two feet square, it becomes three feet square. Lucky Colours.

Many women cherish the belief that one colour or another has special luckbringing qualities for them. This winter, smart women are going in for an all black outfit with a touch of their lucky colour in their hats by way of relief. The colour is most striking if it is in an imitation osprey. Osprey is being dyed to meet the demands of the milliners, in every shade imaginable.
