MANGAMUTU v. HALCOMBE RETURN MATCH

A return match was played between the Mangamutu and Halcombe tennis clubs on the Mangamutu hard courts when the home side won by 20 sets, 165 games to 7 sets, 123 games. Mr. Brechin, president of the Mangamutu Club, extended a welcome to the members of the Halcombe Club, and Mr. E. D. Cowdrey responded. Details are as follow: Men’s singles: L. Hamilton beat G. Hamilton, 7—6; W. Anscombe v. T. Clapham (unfinished); D. O’Brien lost to M. C. Amadio, 5—7; E. Lett beat J O’Sullivan, 7—3; L. Heayns beat R. J. Managh, 7— i; V. Brown beat E. Karatau, 7—6. Ladies’ singles: Miss N. Etz beat Mrs. Amadio, 6 —2; Miss K. Dick beat Mrs. R. Managh, 6-—3; Miss K. O’Brien beat Miss E. McGreal, 6—3; Miss P. Noble v. Mrs. R. Dudding (unfinished); Mrs. A. Tait beat Miss M. Clapham, 6—2; Miss N. Curtin lost to Miss B. Bilton, 5—6; Miss E. Miller beat Mrs. E. W. Cowdrey, 6 —l.

Men’s doubles: Hamilton and O’Brien beat Hamilton and Amadio, 7 —6; Anscombe and Heayns lost to O’Sullivan and Clapham, 5-—7; Lett and Brown lost to Managh and Karatau, 3—7; Jones and K. O’Brien beat Davies and Cowdrey, 7—5.

Ladies’ doubles: Misses Etz and Dick beat Mesdames Amadio and Managh, 7—4; Misses O’Brien and Noble lost to Miss McGreal and Mrs. Dudding, 6—7; Mrs. Tait and Miss Curtin beat Misses Clapham and Bilton, 7—l; Misses Miller and Wallis beat Mesdames Cowdrey and O’Sullivan, 7—5.
