Fire in Hold of Coastal Steamer
PASSENGERS UNAWARE OP OUTBREAK United Press Association—By Klee trie Telegraph.—Copyright. Receved Tuesday, 8.35 p.m. SYDNEY, Feb. 22. The passenger steamer Hunter plying between Newcastle and Sydney, had an exciting experience overnight while en route to Sydney, when a fire was discovered in the forehold. There were 75 passengers aboard, all of whom were totally ignorant of the fire until the Hunter dropped anchor in Sydney harbour early this morning and a fire float, which was summoned by wireless, came alongside. It soon subdued the outbreak which originated among stacks of bags of sheepskins, bales of wool and zinc oxide. The damage was only slight.
