Rotary and Politics

POSITION OF CLUB PRESIDENTS Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. The non-political nature of Rotary was emphasised when the district governor, Mr. F. G. Hall-Jones, opened the Rotary Conference to-day. He referred to an attack made on the Government by a non-Kotarian speaker at a club gathering last year, and said that the president of the club bad obtained an assurance that the speaker would not touch on party politics and did everything in his power to minimise the harmful effects of the incident. As a result he was afraid a false and hostile impression of Rotary had beeu created amoDg a large section of the public. He asked the conference to pass a rule providing power for a president to interrupt any speaker at a club luncheon who touched on party politics or other forbidden ground. The resolution will be discussed later in the conference.
