Cattle Market at Waipukurau

The cattle market at Waipukurau to-day showed a sharp rise, both for the fat ana store entries. Iu the fat section very fe w of the entries were finished, and they made very dear buying. The bullocks penned were in store condition only, and sold to £ll 1/-. The best heifers made to £8 17/-, averaging approximately 30/- per hundred pounds. Prime cow beef brought over 26/- per hundred pounds. Second quality Jersey cross lots sold a shade better than 20/- per hundred pounds.
A very Keen demand was shown for store cattle, most of which made dear buying. Store bullocks not in forward order brought to £lO 8/-. Fairy grown 30-months steers brought £6, and entries a year old and in calf realised £6 17/6.. Approximately 3000 store sheep were yarded, being made up of lambs and breeding ewes. The market was very firm, with all useful entries meeting with a good inquiry. Woolly white-faced wether lambs in good hardy condition brought from 15/7 to 18/2, according to size. Weil-grown woolly ewe lambs, in good condition, brought 26/7. Quality was not featured among the breeding ewes, most of which were aged sorts and did not attract for breeding purposes. Realisations were as under:— FAT CATTLE Three well-framed Aberdeen cross bullocks, in forward store condition only, sold well at £lO 13/6. A better finished Red Polled mediumframed bullock realised £ll. Seven Aberdeen Angus bullocks, well framed but in good forward store order only, made a good sale at £ll 1/-. A single small Jersey cross heifer, quite well framed and would hang up at 40(5 lbs, brought £5 5/-. Two similarbred cows in plain order realised £4. An entry of six Red Polled cross heifrs, well-grown and in forward store condition only, sold well at £8 1/-. Two medium-framed Aberdeen Angus heifers, prime finish and showing quality, and would kill out at 600 lbs, sold at £8 17/-. A single Jersey cow, making 450 lbs, sold at £4 14/-. A pen of young medium-framed Aberdeen Angus cows, in light condition, made dear buying at £6 11/-. A young Hereford cow, small grown, prime finished and would not kill out i much more than 600 lbs, sold at £8 5/-. Three very light Jersey cross steers, Which would hardly make 500 lbs, made a very dear sale at £8 6/-. • v STORE CATTLE A line of rising 3-year Aberdeen Angus heifers, medium grown, in calf and in quite good breeding condition, were passed at £6 17/6. An offering of 18-months-old Red Polled heifers, in good condition, sold at £6 9/-. A line of 14 fairly-grown clean-bred Aberdeen Angus bullocks, in good store condition but not forward, made a good sale at £lO 8/-. A draft of nicely-grown 18-months Aberdeen Angus heifers, in very good doing order, made good buying at £6. An entry of 10 fairly-grcwn 30-months-old Aberdeen Angus steers, iu useful store order, were passed at the good figure of £8 17/6. FAT SHEEP. On account of the Waipukurau Jockey Club an offering of heavy prime ewes sold at 19/-. An entry of small to medium Down cross lambs, in fair order, were passed at 18/4. An entry of better grown white-faced woolly lambs, in medium order only, made 18/8. Four medium lambs in good order realised 21/-. An entry of .well-grown prime 2-th wethers brought 26/-. A line of 11 prime Southdown cross ewes, showing quality, sold at 19/-. STORE SHEEP On account of “Mt. Spencer,” 263 guaranteed 5-year ewes, small frames, well mouthed in light condition and off hard country but sound, realised 21/7. An offering 213 5 and 6-yr well-frara-ed Romney ewes, very fair mouths, did not make dear buying at 21/11. A line of 159 small to medium grown 2-th wethers, many being late shorn and in light condition, a very mixed lot, brought 20/10. An offering of 140 6-yr ewes, in good store order, a fattening proposition, sold at 13/6.
On account Mr C. White-Parsons, Flemington, 200 fairly-grown woolly white-faced wether lambs, in light condition but bright and healthy, and should come away in a good paddock, brought 16/6. In from Otane, an offering of 3bo well-framed 6-yr ewes, in quite good condition and fairly well mouthed, were passed at 15/6. These ewes were useful for another season’s breeding. Down from Wakarara, 273 fairlygrown woolly white-faced wethei lambs, in sound order, a good doins line, and in fresh condition, made 18/4.
In from Flemington, an offering of five-year ewes, in very light condition, were passed at 16/-. Off the Wimbledon hills, 19-1 fairlygrown woolly white-faced wether lambs, in good state order, a hardy line, mel the market at 17/10. These lambs were well wooded and made good buying From the same source a line of similarbred lambs, smaller grown and verj sound and healthy, sold at 15/7. Thu line made good buying. An offering of fairly-gsown, wellwoolled wHJte-faced ewe lambs, in goot condition, realised 26/5. hi from Mangaorapa, a line of shon ■while-faced wether lambs, in hardj order, brought 14/2.
