From Our Own Correspondent. After a week of unpleasant oppressive heat, heavy rain commenced to fall late on Friday night, and continued until noon on Saturday, proving of great value to the farmers. In consequence of the heavy downpour, most sports fixtures and pleasure parties had to be abandoned, but the Sanson B team, which was optimistic enough to Journey to Rongotea on the oft•chance that the weather would Improve and the courts be dry. were rewarded with an afternoon of perfect tennis weather. The following are the results of the games, Rongotea players being mentioned first:— Men’s singles: R. Morrison beat J. Bradley. R. Gooch beat K. Lumsden. W. Churchill beat A. Nesbitt, E. Brabant beat Ken Lumsden. Women’s singles: Miss J. Eades beat Mrs Leitch, MLm J. Caverhlll lost to Miss Adams, Mrs Tegg beat Miss J. Davey, Miss Fraser beat Miss Murphy. Men’s doubles: Morrison and Gooch beat Bradley and K. Lumsden; Churchill and Brabant beat Ken. Lumsden and Nesbitt. Women’s doubles: Misses J. Eades and J. Caverhill beat Mrs Leitch and Miss Adams; Mrs Tegg and Miss Fraser beat Misses Murphy and Davy. Mixed doubles: Morrison and Miss J. Rongotea 15 sets, 95 games; Sanson 1 set 47 games. Personal and General. Mr and Mrs H. V. Caverhill have left; on their annual holiday. Mrs T. Collins Is spending a few days with her parents in Wanganui. At the February meeting of the local Women’s Institute, tt was decided to hold the next monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 9, and members are asked to note the alteration from the usual date. The competition will be for a child’s frock, to cost not more than three shillings. After being judged, these articles will go forward to the group meeting, which will be held on the following day. and ultimately be distributed at various children's homes. Next week-end the Palmerston North Broadway team under the leadership of Mr O. O'Brien, will play a return match with the local Tennis Club. This should prove an interesting fixture, as Broadway is bringing out a strong team to avenge their defeat earlier in the season. The following will represent the Rongotea Club: Messrs Scott, H. Churchill. R. Morrison, G. Tucker, W. Churchill. R. Gooch. Misses G. and J. Eades, M. Scott and Mesdames Davison and Bowater.
