Pahiatua Swimming Club
VISIT TO WANGANUI Some 34 swimming enthusiasts from Pahiatua journeyed to Wanganui on Saturday afternoon to participate in a night swimming carnival. The team, which, contained a good number of young swimmers, performed creditably and left behind a good impression. Competing in the B grade 66 2-3yds. handicap, Eric Staples, of Pahiatua, gained first place and also secured second in the men’s dive. In the A grade 66 2-3 yds. race lan Jensen was second, and Victor Boyens secured a similar placing in the 66 2-3yds. C grade. Mishap Off High Dive. The high dive board in the Pahiatua baths has little or no spring, and at the recent carnival in Pahiatua visiting divers were somewhat “at sea” in their take-offs. On Saturday night the Pahiatua competitors were at a similar disadvantage, their trouble being the spring, which was most perplexing. This proved the undoing of Miss Yvonne Wills, who struck the bottom of the baths and sustained painful facial injuries. She pluckily went on, and received an ovation for her gameness.
