From Our Own Correspondent. School Picnic. The annual school picnic was held on Friday of last week at the Ashhurst Domain. There was a good attendance of parents and friends in spite of the unsettled weather conditions. Although several light showers fell, the committee managed to run the full sports programme. The committee are to be congratulated upon the organisation, especially the ladies, who rendered sterling service providing refreshments. Mr N. Chowen, chairman of the school committee, thanked one and all for their attendance and expressed the committee’s thanks to the ladies for their services and to the various business firms lor their donations towards the picnic funds. The speaker also reminded the assemblage that the school jubilee would take place shortly and that a meeting would be called to discuss the form of celebrations. Brill, with extras by Mr A. Lawrence. Novelty dances were won as follows: 'Monte Carlo waltz, Mr and Mrs M. Kristensen; Gay Gordons, Miss J. Kristensen and Mr J. Lankshear. Mr A. K. Greves acted as M.C. Cricket Club. The annual meeting of the Aokautere Cricket Club was held on Wednesday evening, Mr W: Anderson presiding over a good attendance. The report and bal-ance-sheet showed th© club’s finances to be in a healthy state, and the interest ihown promises well for the coming season. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr W. F. Field; president, Mr W. Anderson, Senr.; club captain, Mr W. Anderson; vice-captain, Mr J. O’Neill; lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr L. Craven; hon. auditor. Mr F. Gough; selection committee, captain, vice-captain and Mr W. Gosling. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr and Airs Anderson for the use of their grounds and for their wholehearted support of the game at ali Hines
