Woodville Meeting Abandoned

The Woodville District Jockey Club's autumn meeting was to have been opened on Saturday and concluded to-day but a flood rain set in on Friday night and at 10 a.m. on Saturday, when adverse reports were coming in from the surrounding districts, it was still pelting down, the stewards reluctantly deciding that the meeting should be abandoned. Later in the morning the weather showed signs of clearing but by the time the rain had cleared it was too late to reconsider the decision. The stewards might have postponed the opening of the meeting until Monday but that would have been unfair to the Wanganui Jockey Club, whose meeting opens next Thursday. ' Though no official announcement has been made, it is understood that Woodville is to apply for other dates and that there is a chance that the club will ask the Conference to let them race early in April, and a glance at the fixtures suggests that it should be possible for them to come in a week before Easter and a week after Stratford's one-day meeting. TOLAGA BAY MEETING RAIN CAUSED POSTPONEMENT The Tolaga Bay meeting was to have been held on Saturday but it was postponed because of heavy rain. RACING FIXTURES. February 38. 19.—Winton J.C.
