Still Cloudy to Overcast

WELLINGTON, Last Night. An anti-cyclone extends over the south Tasman and southern New Zealand to beyond Chatham Islands, but the pressure remains relatively low to the north and north-east. The pressure is low also over the greater part of Australia.

Winds: South-easterly at first in the Cook Strait area, otherwise easterly to north-easterly prevailing, force still mainly light to moderate, but strong at times in some exposed positions from Cook Strait northwards.

Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough in Cook Strait and north of East Cape, but decreasing in the former area and elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Fresh to strong easterly winds in the northern portion, with rather rough seas; light to moderate east to north-easterly winds and slight to moderate seas in the southern portion. Weather: For the most part fair in the South Island, but some isolated coastal showers are probable north of Banks Peninsula; still cloudy to overcast and in places misty in the North Island, with further showers or dizzling rain, but conditions gradually improving.
