Dentist Dies of Wound
INCIDENT BEHIND RIFLE-RANGE Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Last Night. After being in a serious condition for five clays, Mr. Sydney Francis Macpherson, dentist, of Invercargill, who was fou id at Bushy Point on Sunday morning unconscious with a bullet wound in the head, died this morning. A Press Association message from Invercargill published on Monday stated:—With a bullet wound in the head ancl an undischarged doublebarrelled shotgun lying alor _,side, Mr. Sydney Francis Macpherson, aged 53, married, \i dentist, of Invercargill, was found about 10 o’clock yesterday morning. Mr. Macpherson went to Bushy Point, a mile beyond the Otatara rifle range, on Saturday afternoon to shoot rabbits. When found yesterday morning he ws,s lying unconscious with the gun alongside. There was an undischarged cartridge in each chamber. He was admitted to the Southland Hospital with a, compound fracture of the skull. It is believed the bullet struck at an acute angle as it passed completely through the skull near the crown. Medical opinion is that the wound wa? caused by a .SO3 bullet. Regimental machine-gun practice was held on the range on Saturday afternoon and a ricochet is thought possible.
