Borough Council Meeting. The monthly meeting: of the Foxton Borough Council was presided over by the Mayor (Mr M. E. Perreau). Also present were Crs. F. Robinson, W. H. Read. J. R. Middleton, T. Chaffey, H. Podmore, F. Titcombe, R. Rangriheuea, D. R. Barron, and the clerk (Mr W. Trueman). Cr. D. Brooks reported that the works committee had inspected Seaview Park and recommended the construction of a new pond 18ft by 32ft, slightly higher up the hill, with a walk round and the construction down to the aviaary, to cost £B. It also recommended the purchase of a steel stamp for marking all tools belonging to the Council and the scrapping of the two lorries Which were inefficient and expensive to run, and the purchase of a new vehicle. With regard to the Borough water supply, this had been inspected and arrangements made for the cleaning of the four-inch well and the sinking of a 3ft. perforated pipe inside the well to prevent the atones from finding their way into the bore. If this was found to be successful it was recommended that the other four-inch well be similarly treated. The cost of the work was estimated at £4O. It was decided to approve of the pond and well expenditure, but the purchase of the new truck was held over. The purchase of a steel stamp was approved. Cr. Robinson reported that the matter or constructing a roadway into Seaview Park had been held in abeyance pending the commencement by the Highways Board of the realignment of Russell and Johnston streets.

It was decided that the works committee prepare estimates for road maintenance for the coming year, to be submitted to the April meeting. A letter was received from the Minister of Internal Affairs asking for information as to tree planting carried out locally in connection with Coronation Day. It was stated that, the only planting done locally to commemorate that occasion - was carried out at the local District High School and it was decided to refer the letter to the committee. Mrs E. Brown presided over the meeting of the Foxton Women's Institute committee. It was decided to ask Mrs A. P. Easton to demonstrate on the making of back door mats. It was also decided to ; have impromptu speeches and to hold a “bring and buy” stall, and the hope was expressed that members would accord this stall a generous measure of support. The secretary was instructed to write Inviting Miss Grant, president of the Northern Wellington Federation of Women’s Institutes, to attend the annual meeting of the local Institute to be held on March 17,
