“MAYTIME" Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy, the singing sweethearts of “Naughty Marietta" and “Bose Marie" are re-united in “Maytime," a glorious musical film which screens at the King’s Theatre on Saturday and Monday next. There will be three sessions on Saturday at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and two sessions on Monday at 2 and 8 p.m. The supporting cast in ‘Maytime" has been carefully selected and includes John Barrymore, Herman Bing, Tom Brown and a newcomer to the screen, Lynne Carver. In love with Nelson Eddy, a young singer, Jeanette MacDonald, an opera star, actuated by a mistaken sense of duty, marries John Barrymore, the impresario, to whom she owes her career. When circumstance brings her and the singer together again, they realise that their love is stronger than before. Mad with insane jealousy the husband kills the singer. The tragedy answers the problem of the younger girl who is drawn between a choice of love and a career. Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy add to the laurels they won in “Naughty Marietta" and “Bose Marie." Their song together, “Will You Bememberf" from the stage play, is unforgettable. Miss MacDonald also sings two complete operatic arias and parts of others. Eddy sings three excellent novelty songs, “Students’ Drinking Song," “Vive and “Virginia Ham and Eggs. ’ ; Together they give a beautiful rendition of the folk song, "Carry Me Back to Old Virginny." The box plan is filling rapidly and intending patrons are advised to reserve their seats immediately at Badgers’ Bookshop.
