BURIAL IN RETURNED SOLDIERS’ PLOT

Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. The death has occurred, following a long illness, of Miss Louisa Campbell MacLeod, formerly of the New Zealand Army Nursing Service. The funeral took place at the Waikumete cemetery, Miss MacLeod being the first woman to be buried in the returned soldiers’ plot there. Miss MacLeod received her nursing training at the Christchurch Hospital. In May, 1915, she left for the war and for the next four years worked in Egypt and at the New Zealand Military Hospital in Codford, England. In 1919 she returned to New Zealand and spent several more years nursing in military camps. About 10 years ago Miss MacLeod came to Auckland and was engaged in private nursing.
