Business Girls’ Club

The first meeting of the year of the Business Girls’ Club took place yesterday in the Jade Tea-rooms, Mrs W. H. Oram presiding. Mesdames A. EL Mansford (patron) and M. Aitchison, ±f. Palmer and Day, vice-presidents, were also present. Mrs Oram welcomed members bach after tho long recess, and hoped they had enjoyed their holidays. Mrs Oram mentioned that quite a number of girla had left the club to get married or had gone to new positions in other towns. The object of the Business Girls’ Club, Mrs Oram said, was to foster the spirit of friendship, and she hoped members who knew any gins new to the city, would bring them along as new members.

As the meeting was the first of the year, no speaker had been engaged and the luncheon was informal, members relating their holiday experiences. Of particular interest were the experiences of Miss Jean Spilman who went on a motor tour of the West Coast. Tho Franz Joseph glacier was seen from the air—a remarkable experience, and the Buller and Otira gorges were also visited. What most impressed Miss Spilinan was the wonderful bush seen all the way down from Nelson to Hokotika.

Another member visited Queenstown and was enchanted with the mountains, the colouring of which was their main feature, and the magnificent Canadian firs reflected in the lakes was another unforgetable sight. Palliser Bay, Wellington, impressed another member with its peculiar- formation of earth called “The Pinnacles,” as did' a camping trip to Cape Kidnappers where the gannets and their young were nesting in their thousands. Another member was enthusiastic about the beauties of Tauranga and the pasturelands of the Waikato. The speakers wero accorded a vote of thanks.
