From Our Own CorrespondentIt is with not a little satisfaction that residents note that the pollution of the Oroua river is being investigated by Mr W. L. Hunter, M.P., as it is the cause of very real concern. A letter written by a local resident in the “Times” recently has assisted greatly in bringing the investigation about. Residents hone that something definite will be done to deal with this menace to public health.
The new Oroua bridge now under construction is going ahead appreciably, although it - will be some considerable time before it will reach completion. Several residents have questioned the safety of
the temporary bridge, but it has been ascertained that it is perfectly safe. Ringworm is prevalent in the district at the present time.
The beach near Parewanui was visited on Sunday last by some local residents, who pronounce it an excellent one from every point of view. There are only about half-a-dozen houses there at present, but one of the residents opines that it will become very popular in the future. There
s a house where hot water. et<\. can be ibtained, making it iddal for picnics. Nevjral parties intend camping there this season.
Friends of Mr W. IfeaVey. of the staff of the Awahuri Dairy Co., will regret to hear of the death of his father. The sym-
pathy of all is extended to Mr Heavy in his great loss. Miss Joan Death, who intends to reside
in Palmerston North, will be greatly missed in the Awahuri Presbyterian Sunday school, where she has been a popular teacher for some time. Mr G. Bromley left for Marton last Saturday. Friends of Master Donald Gctorge will be pleased to learn that he continues U improve after his recent accident. Mushrooms are plentiful just now, and eager seekers of this delicacy are numerous in this locality.
