Pahiatua Borough

The monthly meeting of the Pahiatua Borough Council was held on Monday evening, there being present Mr. J. D. Wilson (Mayor), and Crs. S. K. Siddells, W. A. Carthew, G. H. Hodd, S. J. Judd, J. W. Watts, J. W. Sturton, J. E. Murphy, D. Moriarty and W. T. Brown. Correspondence was received as under;—

The Ministry of Housing forwarded a plan of subdivision for the approval of the council.—Agreed to, Cr. Carthew stating that the areas were larger than those in other places. The Pahiatua Parochial District Jubilee Committee requested that the footpath from Tui street to the church gates be put in order.—Referred to the works committee, with power to act. The National Art Gallery asked for support. —Received. The Public Works Department forwarded annual report. —Received. The N.Z. Institute of Town Clerks asked the council to facilitate the attendance of the town clerk to the annual conference of town clerks, to be held at New Plymouth prior to the opening of the municipal conference.— Agreed to. Mr. J. L. Adams gave notice of resignation as caretaker to the municipal swimming baths.—Received. Mr. O. F. Wright sought a lease of the Cemetery Reserve property.—Referred to the cemetery committee. General. Cr. Hodd asked that the children’s playground be re-tarred as It was becoming overgrown with weeds and breaking up. The Mayor explained that last year’s tar-scaling programme could not be completed this year as the council had not agreed to tho extra Id in Tate 3 that would be required. The maintenance of the streets was necessary, however, and the speaker had ordered supplies of material to do the job. As Cr. Hodd had said, there was money in the special fund to carry out the repair work on the playground. Cr. Murphy complained of the potholes in Wakeman street, and this was referred to the works committee.
