Brilliant Gallop

MASTER CYKLON’S SECOND BEST

From Our Own Con esDOndent. HASTINGS, Feb. 15.

Most of the Hastings-Gained horses engaged at Woodville thir Saturday and Monday were run along against the watch this monrig when * v e times revealed that the tracks were faster than on Saturday morning last. Where not specified the following trials were done cn the plough track. • * • Master Cyklon (B. Stowe) was the first to be galloped, being sent once round to record the excellent time of lmin. 37 4-sscs., the best, but one, ever done on the Hastings plough. Certainly he carried only about seven stone. However, it was an outstanding effort. He finished very strongly to gain many friends for his Woodville and Wanganui engagements. • • • Ivar on the inside grass, with J. Campbell in the saddle, was hard held all the way in his half-mile run along in 53secs. He may now be ridden at Woodville by P. Atkins, who will be present at that meeting and not Waikato as previously reported. • • • Iddo (C. Zuppicich) had his first run along for some time, and in running the half-mile in 56secs could not have been allowed his head. v * • t Tullamore (J. Forsyth) and Tiger Gain (C. Shields) ran once round in I.4lJsecs. The Wanganui Cup candidate, Tiger Gain, was doing it very comfortably, but Tullamore showed a big .improvement on Saturday’s effort and must have done about three seconds better. 9 # <» Quake (P. Atkins) and Allmetic (H. Murray) were against the bit when registering 52Jsecs for half a mile. Both look big and lusty on it and in good order to commence serious business. • # * Black Frost (J. Dooley) was not 1 timed in his short sprint, but appeared to hit out very freely. He will not race until Napier Park early next month. ' • t • On the inside grass Jacynth (P. Alkins) finished the best part of two' lengths ahead of Red Witch (J. Molloy), over half a mile in a shade better thanj 51secs. • # • Centrepoise and the Hunting Song-' Blue Jay two-year-old gelding were; given three-quarter pace work. The! latter appears to have improved some-! what in action, there being an obvious! lengthening in his stride. • * • Kikiroki (C. Shields) and Lady Wessex (J. Forsyth) were restricted to gi working gallop when running half a mile in 54secs. * • • Sardius (C. Shields), bn the inside grass track, reeled off an impressive five furlongs when registering 62£secs for that distance. As he was wide out, this effort attracted notice as to his prospects this week-end. • • « Pladie (J. Forsyth) appeared to be going better than Soho (P. Atkins) at the end of three-quarters of a mile, taking lmin 18secs. Pladie is nicely weighted at Woodville with but 31bs. above the minimum, but so far no jockey has been engaged to ride him. He won at his last start. • • • Power Chief (P. Atkins) alone ran four furlongs in 53secs., but was allowed to run along easily the first bit, onlj being given a reminder or two over th<; last couple of furlongs. • • • Hunting Cat (P. Atkins) went a shade better than on Saturday morning with Kahikatoa, as this morning he appeared to reverse the order to have the better of the go to record lmin. 41secs. or half a second better time. The order at the end of seven furlongs was Contact (J. Forsyth), Parry (P. Atkins) and Tommy Atkins (H. Callahan), the time being lmin. 32|secs* Contact showed improvement when finishing in front, but Tommy Atkins and Parry abreast were gaining a little over the last furlong. On the inside grass Gironde (P. Atkins) did decidedly better than Saturday by galloping the three-quarters of a mile in lmin. 16£secs. against lmin. 20secs. This gelding has always gone more generously with Atkins in the saddle than with any'other horsemftn.
