Feilding Railway Returns
FIGURES FROM ANNUAL STATEMENT From the Railways Statement presented to the House on Tuesday night tho following statistics for the year ended March 31, 1937, relating to the Feilding station,- are extracted:— Outward Traffic. Passenger Journeys.—First class, 1426; second class, 21,535; total, 22,963. Season tickets, 59. Traffic.—Cattle and calves, 21,859; sheep and pigs, 239,412; tinnier, super, feet (hundreds), 2195; other goods, 15,170 tons. Revenue. Ordinary passengers, £6493; season tickets, £6l; parcels, luggago and mail, £565; total goods, £29,912; miscellaneous, £39; total, £37,070. Inward Traffic. Cattle and calves, 30,540; sheep and pigs, 168,511; timber, super, feet (hundreds), 11,148; other goods, tons, Feilding’s supremacy as the principal sheep centre of the North Island was challenged by Waipukurau, but this position results from the fact that all stock trucked from Aorangi and Taonui is credited to Palmerston North. The actual arranging of trucking at these two stations is handled by Feilding, which should for the purpose of these returns be credited with the stock trucked. Actually these two stations contributed 30,255 head of sheep and pigs and this figure, added to the 239,412 credited to Feilding, would definitely place Feilding on top, since Waipukurau’s total was 252,434 head.
