From Our Own Correspondent. RarsonaT. Miss Campbell, Masterton. is the guest of Mrs McSweeney, Vance street. Mr C. Baird was taken ill last weekend and removed to the Palmerston North Hospital. Mrs Burke and family, of Whirokino, arrived this week to take up residence. Mr and Mrs Seaton and family, who have been farming at Bainesse, have returned to Shannon. Mrs A. Foster and her two children, who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs G. Merver, South street, for the past fortnight, left on Tuesday for their home in Hawke’s Bay. Mr A. Knowles, accompanied by Mr G. Knowles, Day’s Bay, Wellington, is spending a few days with his brother, Mr PI. W. Knowles, Vance street. General There was an attendance of 35 at the euchre party on Monday night.. Mrs Picard won the ladies’ prize and Mr Thompson the men’s. The hostesses were Mrs Jamieson, Snr., and Mrs R. Woodmass. The members of the Croquet Club still continue to hold card afternoons every other Tuesday, tho attendance of players being quite good. Last Tuesday Mrs Thompson and Mrs Beni were the winTliere was a larger attendance than usual at the monthly social afternoon, arranged by members of the Anglican Church, on Wednesday. Shannon Golf Club. To-day (Saturday) a match will be played with the Levin men. The local team is as follows: H. Stern. Bovis, McDonald, Ostler, Boyd, Edwards. Clayton, Moody, Murrow, McSweeney Collins, and Blackwood. Play will commence at 1.15 p.m. On Satuprday last, a points bogey was plaved by the men, Mr McSweeney being tho winner. Rugby Football. The Shannon senior football team is leading Otaki by two points for the championship. There will be no senior competition games to-day (Saturday), on account of the representative fixture, but in the other grades the following matches are to be played, their venues and referees being given also:— Junior: Athletic v. If Chris Anderson (Shannon) is chosen to play in the N.Z. v. The Rest game at Wellington to-day, his loss will be felt by Horowhenua in their challenge match with Bush for the Babbington Shield, at, Pahiatua. Should Anderson not be available his place will be taken by J. Bond. Shannon Dairy Coy. At a meeting of the directors of the Shannon Co-operative Dairy Company on Monday it was decided to pay out on August 20 a bonus of 23-8 d per lb. for butterfat supplied during the past.season which will absorb about £27,000. The output of butter manufactured by the company for the season was 3487 tons, an increase of 66 tons over last years’ output, the average grade being 94 points. The store sales for the corresponding were £38,445, representing an increase of £4,300. The retiring directors are Messrs J. Chrystall and R. J. Law, both being eligible for re-election. The annual meeting of the shareholders will be held at the end of next week. Sunday School Treat On Saturday the Makerua ;uid Shannon undenominational Sunday Schools held their annual treat. First of all there was tea which was followed by games of various kinds. Then the Makerua children, who had been trained by Alesdames A. Prior and Whitehead, and the Shannon children, trained by Mrs R. Lind, entertained with dialogues, songs and recitations. Mrs Whitehead, Miss Evelyn Williamson and Master Richard Lind, played the accompaniments. Mr King, an overseas visitor, addressed the children, and Mr J. S. Moir, of Levin, presented the prizes to o.aeh child. This annual treat is always looked forward to by the children and this year it was as enjoyable a function as ever.
