Mr. H. F. Ayson, formerly Resident Commissioner at Rarotonga, has been appointed Judge of the Waiariki Native Land Court district. Mr. A. E. Lawry, of Napier, and Mrs. Lawry arrived at Auckland by the Matua on Wednesday after a holiday trip to the Islands. Mr. T. le C. Powdrell, of Wairoa, has been elected, unopposed, to represent i the Gisborne district on the committee !of the New Zealand Meat Producers' j Board. Mr. H. H. Wylie, secretary of the ' Hawke’s Bay* Power Board, and Airs Wylie, returned by tho Matua after a holiday visit to Fiji. Air. and Airs. Wylie returned to Napier last night. Mr. L. G. Loveday and his son, Allan Loveday, of Palmerston North, will arrive in Hastings to-day. They will be the guests of Air. and Airs. F. J. Tonkin, of Lyndhurst road, during their stay. Aliss Rosemary Rees, the novelist, who is well-known in Napier, left New Zealand several weeks ago for Sydney to complete a new book. Since then she has had to abandon her work for a time owing to serious illness. 1 Air. G. J. Grace, of the Palmerston North branch of the Union Bank of Australia, is to take up the position of accountant at the Napier branch to succeed Air. R. E. N. AlcBrearty us a new member and presented certificates of life membership to Messrs. G. Pattle and G. I. McGregor. Rev. \V. Langston (vicar of AJI Saints’ Church), Rev. J. S. Holland (curate at All Saints’), Rev. F. >s. Ramson (vicar of St. Peter’s Church, Terrace End), and Air C. H. Handley, of Palmerston North, are attending the Anglican Diocesan Synod at WeliingMr H. M. Garner, of Palmerston North, is at present on an extended visit to Australia, during which he will tour the principal cities and the North Coast. Mr Garner, who expects to be absent for about two months, is accompanied by Airs Garner and Aliss K. B. Garner. Air. and Airs. *W. G. Cook and Aliss | Ala vis Cook left Waipukurau this week i for Wellington, where they will in future reside. Air. Cook is a very old resident of Waipukurau, having lived there since boyhood. He has always taken a keen interest in local affairs and was for some years chairman of the District High School Committee. Both Mr. and Mrs. Cook will be greatly missed from Waipukurau by a large circle of friends. Air. Lowell C. Pinkerton, the new Consul-General for the United States in New Zealand, will arrive in Wellington in September or October. Air. Pinkerton, who is married, has been stationed in the Department of State, Washington, for about four years. He has twice been assigned to London, and for four years held the post of Foreign Service Inspector, which entails visiting the United States Consulates in different parts of the world.
