Baby Drowned
FALLS OFF BRIDGE INTO CREEK. Per Press Association. WHANGAREI, June 4. Mary Drake, aged 18 months, daughter of Mr. G. E. Drake, Titoki, was drowned in a creek this morning. The child followed her sister to the road on her way to school and unknown to the elder girl fell off a small bridge across a creek. Later the mother saw the child floating in the creek. Artificial respiration including the old Maori method of holding the child in smoke failed. VERDICT OF ACCIDENTAL WHANGAREI, Last Night. The Coroner, Mr. G. H/Morrish, returned a verdict that Mary Drake was accidentally drowned. LITTLE GIRL DROWNED. CHRISTCHURCH, June 4. Valerie Lusk, aged four, was drowned in the Strowan stream, in the St. Andrew's College grounds, at noon today. She had gone to meet her father, who was coming for lunch on the midday train, and fell into the creek. The parents live at College avenue, Papanui.
