VANDALISM IN ART GALLERY. Per Pres* Association. WELLINGTON, June 4. Some vandal yesteiday afternoon, at the Dominion Art Gallery, cut a piece clean out of Harold Speed's beautiful picture * ‘May Morning," a fino oil painting 20 inches by 24, depicting the semi-nude figure of a girl sitting against a colourful background. The work was purchased in 1928 by the New Zealand Academy for £l5O, and formed part of the collection presented by the Acade:iy to the National Art Gallery. The piece cut is more or less circular, measuring nine inches by seven, and including the upper part of .he torso. Whoever committed the vandalism took this p : ece away, and as there is no sign of it, the picture is ruined.
