Feilding Methodist Church
ANNIVERSARY SERVICES The 61st anniversary of tho erection of the first Methodist Church in Feilding will be celebrated by special services to-morrow. The Wesleyan services were instituted in Feilding in 1873 by Rev. T. F. Reeve, who was stationed in Foxton and a link with Mr. Reeve is found in Feilding to-day through Mrs. Reeve, of Weld street, widow of a younger brother of the pioneer preacher. The preacher’s text for the opening service was “Beware of Covetousness" and early records show that for some Sundays the services were held under pine trees near tho Oroua river and afterwards in a carpenter'3 shop. From this humble beginning the worthy work has grown and appreciation has been expressed by tho xiresent congregation in its resolve to erect a new Sunday school iu commemoration. The anniversary services to-morrow will be conducted by Rev. A. Macdowell, tho newly appointed Minister at St. Paul's, Palmerston North, and Rev. J. H. Allen. The choir will render special anthems while solos will bo contributed by Miss Blanchette and Messrs. H. Blackwood and A. Shelton. A special rally will be held on Monday evening at 7.45 when various items will be rendered and a brief report setting out the activities of the church, presented. The financial objective as fixed by the trustees is £2OO.
