Control of Rugby In the Manawatu

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE DEALS WITH VARIOUS MATTERS. FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY. Mr A. M. Ongley (president) was in the chair at last evening's meeting of the management committee of the Manawatu Rugby Union. Others present were Messrs K. W. Eglinton, L. J. Plank, J. E. Hardie, W. Carruthers, I*. G. Berry, G. H. Peters, J. A. Colquhoun. P. O. Skoglund, A. Gordon, H. J. Hickey, H. R. Crawford, W. Gleepon and J. H. White (secretary). Mr J. W. Smith was granted leave of absence. Correspondence. Explaining that their team had a bye. the secretary of the Awahuri Football Club wrote asking the union if it would be possible to get a junior match with a city team at Awahuri next Saturday. —The secretary was instructed to advise Awahuri that there was no bye in the junior grade and no team available. It was resolved to ask Mr Gloeson to approach Feilding seniors with a view of that club fielding a team against Awahuri next Saturday. Massey College applied for permission to play Victoria University College and Lincoln College, the latter game to be on or about June 16.—Granted. Tho Woodvillo Borough Council wrote advising that the charge for the Recreation ground would be £7 10s for tho season, the union to be permitted to charge at the gate.—The letter was received. The New Zealand Rugby Union wrote that, after reading the evidence, the disqualification for life of A. Burlace had been changed to suspension for life, the reason being that it would be impossible to reinstate a disqualified player if it- were thought advisable in tho future.—Received. In a circular to Rugby Unions, the New Zealand Union drew attention to the English rule, which lays down that no member of the committee of tho union, and unless engaged solely in the profession of journalism, no committee-man-of any constituent body or club under the jurisdiction of the union, or referee or player, shall w r rite, give information or interview for the Press, or broadcast on current Rugby football for remuneration. —Received. The Oroua Bub-Union wrote asking why the question of boundaries was not brought up at the annual meeting, also if the union could procure a dozen books on school football and for the usual school grant. Mr Eglinton remarked that the matter of boundaries was brought up but that no action was taken. It was resolved to advise Oroua to that effect, and that the books be procured and the grant made, as requested. Tho Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) wrote stating ho would w-elcome the union's co-operation in placing tlie matter of the King George V. Memorial Fund before the members of the organisation, thus giving an opportunity of contributing towards the fund. Mr Plank moved that the union donate five guineas to the fund, this being seconded by Mr Skoglund and carried. Kia Toa applied for permission to play three players over age in tne fourth grade team. Two of the boys were just over eighteen (not over age) and the third w-eighs seven- stone. —The request was granted. Old Boys applied to have L. Hills re-graded from senior to junior.—Granted. On behalf of Massey College, Mr Colq-.houn asked that Massey College be drawn for a competition match next Saturday, or, failing that, to arrange for a match for them against, possibly, a combined team. It was pointed out that it had been decided to decide the first-round winners before the second round was commenced. Mr Crawford thought, in fairness to a-iassey College, to arrange something for them next Saturday. Mr Hardie considered that it would be better to go on with the competition next Saturday. Mr Hickey moved that tho resolution on the books bo rescinded and that the Kia Toa-Old Boys final be played next Saturday and that the other senior teams be drawn for the first games of the second round. This was seconded by Mr Hardie and. carried. Mr Gleeson was appointed manager of the representative team to play at Wanganui on the King's Birthday This match commences at 10.30 a.m. Mr Peters will manage the Manawatu team which plays Horowhonua at Palmerston North on the King's Birthday. It was resolved to offer Juno IP a* the date for the return match. In regard to the winners of the first and second rounds of the senior competition, it was resolved to purchase two cups. Mr Berry asked for advice from the union regarding the midget competition and ho was asked to request th* Primary Schools' Association to a> range for the competition and to Bug gest a date for commencing it. It was also resolved that during tho month of June junior matches start at 1.15 p.m. and senior matches at S.lh p.m. FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY.
