Transfer of Mr G. G. Hancox Rumoured

MAY BE APPOINTED TO WAIRARAPA According to a Wairarapa report, the Minister of Education, Hon. P. Fraser, has appointed Mr G. G. Hancox, principal of the Palmerston North Technical High School to be principal of Wairarapa College, which is to combine the Wairarapa High School and the Masterton Technical School. The official announcement of the appointment is expected to be made at a meeting of the Wairarapa Secondary Education Board this evening, and it is understood that the principal of the High School, Mr H. B. Tomlinson, and the principal of tho Technical School, Mr O. H. E. Yates, will be transferred to other schools. For many years the amalcranuition of the two schools has been discussed in the Wairarapa, and so that a settlement could be arrived at, the Wairarapa Secondary Education Board last year invited the Minister to visit Masterton and discuss the position with educationists. This the Minister did, and he expressed himself as being in favour of the two schools merging. Subsequently he advised the board that he had decided to amalgamate the schools, and applications were invited for the positions of principal and staff.
