Rail-car Service to Hawke’s Bay

INNOVATION THIS WINTER. From Our Own Correspondent. WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. A rail car will be running daily between Waipukurau and Palmerston North before the end of this winter, it is expected. A tentative timetable has already been drawn up. The car is to leave Waipukurau at 7.20 a.m., reaching Palmerston North at 9.46 a.m. On the return trip it will leave Palmerston North ut 3.45 p.m., reaching Waipukurau at 6.7 p.m. The car will stop where required for passengers. One great advantage of the new service will be to provide a Hawke’s Bay connection for passengers on the New Plymouth express. The express reaches Palmerston North at 3 p.m., and at present passengers have to wait till the following day for a train to Hawke’s Bay. It is understood that the service will bo instituted as soon as a rail-car is available. At present the Department is waiting for engines from Britain.
