Unique Features Stamp “Heart of the West”

CLARENCE MULFORD NOVEL MAKES DRAMATIC MOVIE (Kosy: Screening To-day.) Every one of the thrill-loaded “Hopalong Cassidy” pictures produced by Harry Sherman for Paramount has had something which stamped it as unique among socalled “Westerns.” “Heart of the West, ’ ’ sixth of the Hoppy films to be brought to the screen from novels by Clarence E. Mulford, is no exception. “Heart of tho West" has action, puifch, and an air-tight story. It has an outstanding cast, headed by tho Western favourites William Boyd and Jimmy Ellison, and including such skilled players as Sidnew Blackmer, George Hayes, aud a host of others. Hoppy and Johnny have strayed from their home ranch, tho “Bar 20," as thd movie opens. They are about to report for work at Big John Trumbull’s “Tumbling L," when they learn enough to make them realise that Trumbull’s outfit isn’t the kind they want to be associated with. They turn down the jobs and take work with an adjoining rival outfit, the “Three J," owned and operated by an Easterner, Jim Jordan. A fence war-between Trumbull and Jordan, with a sinister motive behind Trumbull's objection to fencing in tho grazing land of the “Three J," involves Hoppy and Jimmy. Romantic interest is provided by Jim Gabriel cast as Jordan's attractive sister. ►Stampedes, gun-battles, a dynamiting, aud hand-to-to-hand scraps keep the puuchcs coming as the story gallop.* to a whirlwind finish. It’s “Hoppy" of the best sort —and that means it’s Western drama at its best.
