Easier Market for Waipukurau Sale

WELL-BRED LINES OF STORE CATTLE. MIXED STORE SHEEP OFFERED. From Our Own Correspondent. WAIPUKURAU, May 4. Another good yarding of well- ? bred station lines of store cattle ! was offered at Waipukurau today 4 when there was an easier market j throughout. The price levels, gen- ; erally, made for satisfactory sales. ’ An exceptionally well-bred line of dehorned 30-mth. Hereford steers from the Gisborne district, realised £8 10/-, Fairly grown young bullocks in forward j order made to £8 13/6. Weaner steers, showing good breeding, fairly grown, 'vero slow to trade. An attractive well-bred line of 20-rath. heifers, which should dovolop into splendid breeding cow's, made £5 19/-. Breeding cows in calf were also rather difficult to sell, useful lines in calf since early December failing to go over the £5 mark. The fat cattle pens were a plain quality lot. The only ox beef that was prime was a line of well-bred small grown young bullocks on account of Mr. Charles Pattison. The female pens were devoid of quality, the cows being in hard condition and unfinished. Although several pens wore offered, the markot was not tested for butchers* quality. There was a moderate yarding of store sheep which was a mixed offering of wethers, breeding ewes and lambs. Realisations were as under:— FAT CATTLE. An entry of nine small to mediumframed Aberdeen Angus cows, iu plain, :*rder and unfinished, did not attract, to pass at £5. On account Mr C. Pattison, six small tp medium-framed Aberdeen Angus sows, quite well finished but light, urought £6 5/-. Eight small-grown Aberdeen Angus heifers, mixed in quality, the best being fairly finished, made to £7. On account of Mr C. Pattison, six well-bred full-grown Aberdeen Angus bullocks, being a prime quality entry &f choice young ox beef, were passed at £9 10/-. Niue Aberdeen Angus cows, Email to medium framed, unfinished, lacking quality, were passed at £5. A nicely-g*rown prime Aberdeen Angus runner made £5. An entry of Jersey cross cows, insluding some aged sorts, a plain lot, Drought £3 18/-. On account of Mr C. Pattison, Waiwora, 20 well-bred Aberdeen Angus bullocks, in forward condition, mediumgrown and ready for finishing off, met tho market at £8 13/6. On account of Mr Ralph Holden, Makotuku, 30 well-bred nicely-grown 30-month Aberdeen Angus steers, dn forward condition, well done, good quality young cattle, sold at £8 9/-. Down from Wakarara, 18 Hereford cows, very light condition and running with an Aberdeen Angus bull since December, sold at £4 10/-. On account of Mr T. Price, 48 dehorned well-bred 30-month Hereford steers, forward condition, a particularly good quality entry of young cattle, which should finish readily, were passed at £8 10/-. These steers were an unusually attractive offering, fully showing the breed characteristics. An entry of 44 nicely-grown Aberdeen Angus-Hereford dross 20-month heifers, in hardy good-doing condition, the foundation of a good breeding herd, met the market at £5 19/-. On account of Mr H. Cl. Palby, Wan* stead, 26 dehorned Hereford cows, just weaned calves, r.w, Aberdeen Angus, were passed at £5. On account of Mr A. Judd, 19 medium grown 20-month Aberdeen Angus steers, a few showing the Hereford cross, in good order and hardy, were passed at £7 18/-. An entry of well-bred Hereford wea--1 ner steers, having just come off their ! mothers, in good order, were passed j at £4. | A line of 16 small grown Aberdeen Angus steers, in backward order, but should come away on suitable feed, brought :°j 14/-. i In from Wanstead, 20 clean-bred, fairly grown weaner Hereford heifers, in good order, sold at £5 4/-. In from Takapau, 12 medium-grown 30-months Aberdeen Angus steers, in light to medium order, made £7 11/-. i FAT SHEEP. ! An entry of 22 well-woollcd medium to prime heavy ewes, made 22/-. i A lino of 36 small-grown, black-face lambs, in light condition, sold at 20/-. An entry of 20 medium-framed, prime, well-woolled wethers, made 26/7. A lino of light finished, aged ewes j brought 17/10. ( A bid of 20/6 was offered for a line of small-grown, black-face lambs, of , medium quality. 1 A lino of small-grown Down cross lambs, prime order, made 22/7. A small entry of well-grown, heavy Down cross prime lambs, mado 27/9. An entry of woolly Romney lambs, very light condition, mado 20/-. Seventeen well-woollcd ewes, prime order, made 22/6. STORE SHEEP On account of Messrs A. D. and W. S. Kitto, 187 small-grown down cross lambs, in meaty condition, sold cheap. !y at 14/6. An entry of 28 4* 6 and 8-th ewes, running with Romney rams since March 1, were passed at 29/-. These ewes were well grown and well woollcd,, being in fresh good breeding order.
