Mt. Richards Road

From Our Own Correspondent. Under very favourable weather conditions the local school picnic was recently held at an Ideal spot on the banks of the Coal creek. Residents gathered at the site during the morning. .Lunch was partaken of, after which the children enjoyed games. The tiny tots were particularly •interested in the swings which had been slung from willow trees. Visitors arrived from far and near and all joined in the fun of the day. Mr Frank Roberts won the young men’s race, the prize being donated by Mrs Lampton-Smith. The children indulged in races which were keenly contested. Before afternoon tea many enthusiasts made a hurried visit to the swimming pool. Afternoon tea brought whispers of prizes, which were soon given out by the chairman. Each pupil received a prize for last year’s work:—Form 111. Conway Ferguson. Roy Stevens; Std. IV., Nancy Stevens, Eleanor Port. Gwen Winsrate; Std. 111., Mavis Marshall: Std. 11.. June Marshall; Std. 1., Alison and Heather Stuart; Primmer 4, Barry Ferguson: Primmer 3, Dorothy Whitehead, Gordon Stuart, Duicie Marshall: sewing, senior, Eleanor Port; junior, Alison Stuart. Conway Ferguson was congratulated on his success in winning the Vernon Memorial Scholarship, at the Palmerston North Boys’ High School. Mrs W. R. Kibblewhite. with her two small sons, who has spent a week with i her sister. Mrs A. N. Roberts, has returned to Waipukurau with her husband.
