From Our Own Correspondent. Young Farmers' Club. On Wednesday, March 24. the Shannon Young- * armors’ Club will meet in the Borough Council Chambers with the obj n e , ct L °t forming a Young Farmers’ Pig Club. Sponsored by Mr E. F. Nielsen, recording officer of the Manawatu-Oroua iig Recording Club, who will hi in attendance, this club will be the first of its kind In New Zealand to be formed bv young farmers.

Barminton Club. An effort is to be made to form a Badminton Club in Shannon. A surprising number of people both in the town and district, have expressed their Willingness to join up and a large and enthusiastic attendance is assured for the initial meeting.

Borough Council. Nominations for the position of borough councillor, to fill tho vacancy caused bv the resignation of Mr T. C. Thwaites closed on Saturday last. Only one nomination was received, that of Mr F. Peach, who is therefore elected unopposed. Horse Sports. A general meeting of the Shannon Horse Sports Club was held last Thursday evening, there being an attendance of twentyfive members. The object of the meeting was to arrange for the preparation of the grounds, the appointing of officials, and the finalising of many other details. It was decided to accept the tender of the W.D.F.U. for the catering. Side-shows ure to be admitted this year. On the recommendation of Mr It. R. Lind, it was decided to include in the programme a slow race. Mr D. Cole spoke in su rt of Mr Lind’s suggestion. He had. he said, witnessed tho slow-race at a recent agricultural show, and the efforts of the riders to retain their seats and complete the course had caused much hilarity. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr E. Barber for his donation of a sheep for the weightguessing competition. The stewards appointed were as follows: Clerk of the

course, Mr O. Larsen; Highland dancing, Messrs. Campbell, McDonald and J. Alexandra, judges stewards, Messrs W. Mo.ynihan and R. Lind; refreshments, Messrs T. Moynihan and Tremewan; horse stewards, Messrs K. Carter, Harding. Peach, J. Barber, Mullins, Higgie, and Cameron; paddock steward, Mr O. Hermanssen; competitions, Messrs Guerin. Sehwass and W. Radford; gate-keepers, Messrs R. Neil J. Gray, and E. Perry; reports stewards, Messrs K. Carter and V McEwen; car stewards, Messrs Campbell and D. Cole. Messrs D. Col© and Lepper will be in ehqrge of the children’s events. Tt was left in Mr Hyde's hands to arrange for the transport of the entrants in the Highland dancing events. The sheep dog trials are in charge of Messrs Lepper and S. Barber, while Mr W. Moynihan is arranging for sheep for this event.
