No Dearth of Trout at Taupo
COLD SENDS FISH TO DEEP WATER * Per Press* Association. MASTERTON, March 15An emphatic dissent from recent allegations of the dearth of trout in Lake Taupo is expressed by Sir William Perry, who has just returned from his annual holiday to the lake. In spite of the weather being a little unpleasant at times, Sir William told an interviewer, he experienced a most pleasant holiday and fishing trip. “My party of three,” he said, “secured 118 fish in eight days, all on wet fly. Quite a number of the?-© fish were from seven to nine pounds, and the bulk of the others were from five to six pounds. - All were in excellent condition. “Owing to the cold season, there are very few beetles and flies in evidence,” he said, “and therefore the fish are feeding in deeper water, and not so many are close to the shore. In evidence ot this, many good fish have their under-jaw quite sore from grubbing on the bottom. “The fish in the Waikato between Huka Falls and the Lake,” said Sir William, “are also in good condition.”
