Plain Speaking About Hitler 810 ANTI-NAZI MEETING IN NEW YORK Ur 1 ted Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Tuesday, 8 p.m. NEW YORK, March 15. The speakers at an anti-Nazi meeting L 20,000 ac Madison Square Garden, at which Hitler was condemned, included Mr. John Lewis, General Hugh Johnson and Dr. Bohn. Mr. Lewis said industrial democracy ■was the best guarantee against Fascism. He asserted that Hitler had crushed the German labour movement. General Johnson said Mr. La Guardia (Mayor of New York) was right in branding Hitler as a menace to the world, causing the crowd to stand and cheer. Dr. Bohn charged Hitler with planning to make war. As soon as his army was ready, he would strike as the Kaiser had struck, in the belief that Britain would stay out of the wa'r. A British declaration proclaiming unity with her natural allies was esesntial to peace to-day. The gathering was sponsored by Jewish organisations. Mr. La Guardia appeared unexpectedly at the meeting and told the audience to pay no attention to anything Hitler says. He ended his remarks wffTi a German phrase which he later told reporters meant: “Hitler can’t take it.”
