MR. THOS. MANSON OF FEILDING. Settlers of the Feilding and Rongotea districts will learn with deep regret of the passing of Air. Thomas Alanson whose death occurred on Monday following a lengthy illness. Until two years ago the late Air. Manson was dairying on tho returned soldiers’i settlement at Fairfield, Awahuri, only| relinquishing the farm on account of ill-health, his brother, Mr. W. Alanson, i taking the place as a sha'remilker. Since S coming to Feilding his health has continued to give cause for anxiety and yesterday he passed away. Aged 49 years, the late Air. Alanson was born at Leigh, Scotland, and came to New Zealand with his brother, Air. W. Alanson, 26 years ago. When the Great War broke out the late Air. Alanson enlisted and went away with the Alain Body, seeing active service in Egypt and Gallipoli. After two years he was badly wounded at Gallipoli and his death ended the years of suffering he had experi enced ever since. Upon his return from the war Air. Manson married Miss Phyllis Scandlyn, daughter of Air. and Airs. J. W. Scandlyn, of Warwick street, Feilding, and took his bride to his farm at Fairfield. During his lengthy residence there he took a keen interest in the affairs of the district and assisted in all functions conducted for its benefit. Of a bright and kindly disposition, Air. Alanson made many friends and had the highest esteem of those who had the pleasure of his acquaintance and friendship. Air. Alanson was one of the original members of the Feilding Returned Soldiers’ Association and served on the first committee. He was also a member of tho Farmers’ Union and the Rangitikci Club. In school matters he also took an interest and was a member of the committee of the Waitolii School for some years, doing his best at all times in the interests of the scholars. The sympathy of a wide circle of . friends will be extended to the bereaved wife and the two children, Thomas and Eileen, also to his brothers including Peter, John and Robert (in Scotland) and his two sistors, Mrs. Hill, of Kaurimu, Taumarunui, and Mrs. Jack, of Dunedin. The funeral takes place to-day aad members of the Feilding R.S.A. will ! participate in the service.
