Saleyards Company to Go Into Liquidation?

POSITION AT PORANGAHAU. From Our Own Correspondent. WAIPUKURAU, March 15. The affairs of the Porangahau Saleyards Company were discussed at the monthly meeting of the Porangahau branch of the Farmers’ Union last night. For two seasons now so sale has been held at these once popular yards, and with the company’s liabilities standing at £3OO it has become obvious to shareholders that the position as at present could not continue. On Saturday next shareholders are to meet to consider a proposal by the directors that the company should go into voluntary liquidation, in which case the yards would certainly be dismantled and the material sold. The disposal or retention of the land on which they stand would then be a matter for discussion. The object and the discussion at last night’s meeting was to sound the feeling of farmers (other than shareholders) on the future of the yards, and to ascertain if any way could be found out of the present impasse. This does not seem likely, however, as. no conclusive suggestion emerged from the discussion.
