Miro Arrives at Napier

EXPLOSIVES VESSEL. NAPIER, March 8. An unusual visitor to the Napier Breakwater yesterday was the ketchrigged vessel Mjro, with a cargo of commercial explosives for discharge. Ihe white paint and the trim lines of the boat led it to be mistaken from a distance for a sea-going yacht. Of 30 tons register, the vessel arrived at 7.45 a.m. yesterday from Wai-ko-kopu and Auckland, and sailed tlijs morning for Wellington, Dunedin, Greymoutk, Westport and Auckland. Captain H. E. Lane, who is relieving the regular master, Captain W. Monafuj f ° r th,e present trip, stated that the demand for explosives in Napier had fallen considerably in the past two years, and that there was but a small quantity of gelignite to be unloaded this trip.

Full precautions regarding the stowing of this delicate cargo are tak*li. The hold containing the explosives, known as the magazine, js specially lined to prevent jarring, and all detonators are kept jn a separate locker. No smoking i s allowed on the deck of the vessel while the hatches are off. “I’ve never been near yet when any* thing exploded,” he added with a smile
