From Our Own Correspondent Public Meeting. The Jubilee executive called a public meeting -on Wednesday evening to acquaint the residents with the arrangements made for the Jubilee celebrations and to elect various officers for that occasion. The meeting was fairly well attended and Mr 15. W. Cowdrey, the chairman, briefly covered the proposed programme and answered questions. The following were then appointed door and table stewards for the luncheon: Messrs U. Fergusson, J. 15. Fergusson, S. Williams, W. Stewart, B. Wischnowskv. L. C. Fergusson, J. Anderson, W. McLennan, J. L. Fergusson. N. Adam. W. S. Page, and L. Siegel. In additiom to these, Messrs N. Adam, Cl. Burgess and W. Davies were appointed salesmen for badges and jubilee booklets. It was decided that table cloths be hired for the luncheon. In order to carry out the erection of marquees, etc., members of all committees and any others willing to help were appointed a works committee. Numbers of residents signified their willingness to allow their cars to be used for free transport of visitors, and others willing to do so were asked to get into touch with Mr D. Bryant. There are 17 visitors requiring billeting and although some of those present offered to provide accommodation, there are still a few visitors not provided for. It was decided that the booklet cover design be black and gold. A ladles’ meeting is being called to form a committee of helpers for the various meads to be provided. The chairman stated that it was probable that there would be childroan’s sports arranged for the afternoon of "the first day. Tennis Meeting. The tennis committee met on Thursday evening at Mr W. Davies’ residence. Mr E. W. Cowdrey occupied the chair. It was decided that owing to the uncertainty of the weather, the dearth of entries, and the proximity of the jubilee celebrations, that the handicap tourney be abandoned ' for this season. The jurnior tourneys, however, are to be played, Messrs W. DuI v;ies and E. R. Long to handicap the play- ! ers. The Winton Button, which was to jbe awarded to the 'most improved lady ! player during the tournament, is now to be drawn and will be a challenge trophy. Games will be of 30 points. If games are not played within 14 days of the issue of the challenge, the committee is to decide who shall hold the button. It was decided that the old court be dismantled, Messrs Davies and Cowdrey to arrange for the disposal of the material. It was reported that the drains under the courts were choked with willow roots and it was resolved that all willows be cut out. The , president, secretary, and Mr R. J. Managh are to interview the contractor regarding the Improvement of the drainage system. , Good progress has been made with the preliminary work in connection with the erection of a new pavilion at the recrea- ! tion ground. The pavilion is being erected by voluntary labour.
