TREES TO CRASH ON MOUNTAIN

THOUSANDS rOISED. SYDNEY, Jan. 21. On* hundred thousand tons ot timber will crash down a mountainside in a timber "drive” at Craven Plateau, near Gloucester, this week. For weeks about 20 expert axemen have been preparing the trees, and thousands of trees have been partly severed, and are ready to fall when the topmost section is dynamited. The spectacle is to be filmed for the Cinesound picture, "Tall Timber.” It was feared yesterday that the high wind would prematurely start the "drive.” A few big trees were blown over. The work has Involved considerable risk. Warning notices have been posted to keep strangers away; Ten cameras will be use dto photograph the scene, in which the local people are taking a considerable -aterest. Although the timber "drive” is a familiar method of felling many trees togother, it has not been attempted before on such a large scale. There is a tense atmosphere in the film camp, where it is hoped that the plans will not go wrong. Unsuitable weather has been delaying the film work.
